Errant Armour Finished

June 25th, 2009

Though there’s a little cleaning up to do (when the greenstuff has dried) and perhaps a few accessories to add (an eagle or skull). I’ll get some better photos tomorrow.

I decided to resculpt both hands so they’d look similar and because the standard right hand did look bizarrely small. I think it’ll be a common thing to be sculpting hands.

Another Errant Armour pic

June 22nd, 2009

More pics to come. I finished resculpting the lower legs and knees and added the belt buckle and jump pack cables. I’m fairly pleased with it and though I want to finish it tonight I’m waiting for the greenstuff to dry, as I’ve already messed it up a cuple of time.

I’m trying to pose him carrying the hammer two handed, but so far the pose looks a little off.

I’ll let you be the judge tomorrow.

Work in Progress ,

Vulkan He’stan

June 22nd, 2009

Here’s my first post covering a Vulkan He’stan conversion I started ages ago but haven’t had a chance to finish.

I’ve used the new miniature due for release soon and the artwork in the book as a basis. Originally was going to use a Nemesis Force Weapon as the spear but it just looked like I couldn’t be bothered to do it right and had used the simplest option. We can’t be having any of that!

The spear tip came from the Black Reach Captain model (bought one specially). It’s a slightly different sword design that works brilliantly as a spear.

The guantlet is from a veteran powerfist, that’s small enough to look the part without looking like a powerfist.

I’m trying to leave the cloak till last, and is really the element of the model I most look forward to as I’ve not done one before.

I’m still not 100% certain about the pose and may switch to something similar to the Grey Knight I’ve been working on.

Errant Armour

June 20th, 2009

This mini is being made as the prize for the winner of my “name the website” competition.

He requested a marine in Mk 8 armour carrying a thunder hammer. Originally I was going to make a flying through the air pose with his thunder hammer held two-handed ready to strike, but after putting together theĀ  initial pieces the model looked too OTT.

I’m trying to pose the arms like the 2008 Games Day Space Marine with thunder hammer. It’s a little fiddly getting the arms to fit and I’ll have to sculpt the one hand but it should be fine.

I’m using this as the guide for how the finished armour should look.

I normally attach a model’s head last as I always feel the direction it’s looking has the most overall effect on its pose. In this case the helmet would not sit comfortably in any other position without looking odd. I also had to trim down the helm to make it fit. The greenstuff on the helm is to try and represent the “sharper” look of the helm in the illustration, and deviate slightly from the mark 7 design.

Things left to do; the trim on the pads needs to be made thinner, the greaves need bulking slightly at the bottom and the boots need a little work. The knee pads need a slight point added to them and the belt buckle need adding. After that it’s just the arms to sort out. I’ve done the Thunder Hammer already by modifying the plastic one to look more like the GD Space Marine version.

Also finished the legs and torsos for the second Mk V tac squad. Pictures due soon.

First Commissioned Squad finally finished (woot!)

June 16th, 2009

OK, well today I finally got around to finishing this squad (it’s been 3-4 weeks now). I’m not going to show the “work in progress” shots this time round and just proceed to the finished stuff.

The order was for a 10 man Tactical Squad all equipped with mk V heresy armour. The client was very helpful in requesting details for individual members. All the models are fully WYSIWYG, mounted on 40mm bases. The client intends to replace the blank shoulder pads with pre-sculpted pads that he already has. Although these were quite difficult to make, now that they’re finished I find myself wanting to keep them (I picture them as an Ultramarine honour guard, but that’s just me). The client might (no promises) start up a project log of his own whilst painting them, which I’d love to see and if so I’ll obviously provide a link.

All the models use the standard power armour marine arms. Although terminator arms (trimmed down) work well too, these are a perfectly viable option.

Note:some of the blank pads have a notch missing out of the front. I didn’t have any others spare at the time for their “finished photos”, but as I said they’ll be replaced by the client.

And here’s the the thirty-odd individual photo close ups (may as well go the whole way, right?).

Finally arrived!

June 16th, 2009

This lot was finally delivered today, only took three weeks for delivery (that I paid for!).

Still, this gives me enough raw materials to be making a start on some fresh projects and just in time too…

Emperors Spear Assault Marine

Emperor's Spear Assault Marine

I’m a real fan of this colour scheme, and only made this marine as a test piece really. The battle damage on the armour could have been painted better, but I guess my next attempt will be an improvement.

My first atempt at a Mk V armour. The head was taken from the Black Reach Missile Launcher Marine.

My first Grey Knight. Technically hes not finished yet. Im planning to make myself a Daemonhunters army all in actual scale.

Starting with the original conversions

June 16th, 2009

I thought I’d begin by posting images of the first actual scale conversions I did. If you’ve seen these before them before just skip to the next post :-)

Sorry no “work in progress” shots of these. Also whenever the Lamenter Space Marine (with the plasma gun) shows up repeatedly in any shot he’s there for size comparison purposes. Expect to see him on a regular basis.

These were my first actual scale conversions. I used the trimmed down terminator arms on these models. The trims on the pads were done with plasticard. Overall I was thrilled they turned out so well.

Opening the Forge

June 15th, 2009

Well I finally managed to finish setting up this website for my Project Blog.

I’m fairly happy with the layout and design. There are probably some tweaks that I’ll need to make along the way to fix graphical inconsistencies but all in all I’m very pleased. If you notice problems with the site please let me know.

It’s currently 2am, so I’m not going to start posting content just yet. I just wanted to make a first official “this website is up and running” post. I’m still trying to figure out the format of the gallery and I fully intend to have a painted conversion somewhere in the mainpage at some point.

Plenty of posts to come tomorrow. Examples of my own finish Space Marines, photos of a project (10 Tactical Marines in mark V power armour) I’ve just finished and the start of another couple of projects.

I have a thread running parallel to this website on Warseer, that I’m hoping to maintain. I’m also tempted to do the same at Bolter and Chainsword even though I’ll be repeating myself I suppose. Feedback on these forums is very important in helping to fix issues I might not notice on my own.

Anyhow, a proper post is due tomorrow with pics and everthing!
