Vulkan He’stan

June 22nd, 2009

Here’s my first post covering a Vulkan He’stan conversion I started ages ago but haven’t had a chance to finish.

I’ve used the new miniature due for release soon and the artwork in the book as a basis. Originally was going to use a Nemesis Force Weapon as the spear but it just looked like I couldn’t be bothered to do it right and had used the simplest option. We can’t be having any of that!

The spear tip came from the Black Reach Captain model (bought one specially). It’s a slightly different sword design that works brilliantly as a spear.

The guantlet is from a veteran powerfist, that’s small enough to look the part without looking like a powerfist.

I’m trying to leave the cloak till last, and is really the element of the model I most look forward to as I’ve not done one before.

I’m still not 100% certain about the pose and may switch to something similar to the Grey Knight I’ve been working on.

  • Yeah he does look like hees skipping, lol. The official model is crowded with salamander sigil and what not, by bigger i meant that he needs good shoulderpads being a primarch and all. Make sure the cloak is scaled :p

  • I'm aiming to have him striding forward, much like in the artwork (I like the official model, but it looks like he's skipping).
Positioning the arm has been hard to do, but I think I have it now. Difficult to not clutter a model (like the official one) when it carries a huge weapon.
I haven't given him huge pads, because the cloak is going to add loads of bulk to him too, which is what I like most about the model.
  • I think you chose the right 'pwerfist' for this. Not to large, and ratio wise like the model to be released. However, when you make the shoulderpads, be sure to add some severe bulk, so that he looks bigger and even more bad-ass.
Pose wise, i think he would look cool if he was charging, but it would be very hard to model him like that since the legs are nearly done. Maybe pointing the spear at a foe, his head turned in the same direction as if hees challenging someone?

  • @Tyruin son of ages

You're absolutely right, he deserves a bigger base.
  • I like this, and would love to see it finished cloak and all. However, would you consider up sizing the base to make room for a more dynamic cloth? Just a suggestion.
