Canine Distractions…

March 15th, 2010

I don’t often post stuff like this, but just felt I had to today.

I’ve fallen a bit behind with my painting schedule the last few days (no surprise eh?) due to having spent the last few days trying a adopt a dog. I’ve always had dogs in my family and now that I’m working towards becoming self employed I will be able to stay home a lot more. So I decided I’m going to provide a home to a dog that needs one. My family already has an amazing dog, so it’s taken a while to go through the process of choosing a dog that will get along well with our current dog. And this little fella is just awesome.

He’s a strange mix of Staffie and Whippet with colouring almost like tiger strips. All the paperwork and vets checks and registrations will be sorted this week and he’ll have his new home with me by the weekend. At the moment he has a rather silly name that I don’t think suits him one bit, so I will be changing his name (a new name for a new life).

I’m thinking of calling him Tycho.

I really like the name but I’m wondering if anyone has any better suggestions?

As a side note I’ve added an extra page for Game Rules (link at the top) with a quick list of ways to incorporate scaled up Space Marines into games of 40K. Nothing particularly ground breaking except for a couple of very detailed PDFs provided by AJ Twombly. Definitely worth checking out. If you have feedback regarding these homegrown rules please contact him at the email provided on that page.

Miscellaneous

  • Good for you on helping out the dogs trust. I got a Staffy Lab cross about 6 years ago and it was the best thing I've ever done. Also cross breeds are pretty much bomb proof so you don't tend to get the genetic problems that alot of pedigrees have.
  • Yeah, I've always believed crossbreads and mongrels are a better choice than purebreeds. After spending a week trying to decide on a new name for him, I ended up sticking with his existing name Bruce. If it's good enough for Bruce Campbell... need I say more?
  • I suppose Gilgat'zak is a bit of a mouthful! I think tycho is a great name for him, does it suit the dogs personality or was it you just like the sound of it?
  • I just like the sound of it. He's a gentle, happy little soul who's very people friendly but seems really unhappy in the kennels. I'm really glad I'm able to provide him with a home. I also like the fact I can shorten it to Tyke :-)

Other names I'm considering are Jax, Bodhi and Dexter.
  • Cute pup. My wife and I keep saying we are going to adopt a dog, but haven't done it yet. Good for you giving one a good home. I'm kind of picky about my dogs... my wife just wants one that will eat dropped food off the kitchen floor so she has to sweep less. I've assured her most will do that.
