Artscale Imperial Fist – Charity A...

WOWZERS!!! Look what came in the post yesterday. It’s so weird to see something I made painted so amazingly well. As much as I’d like to keep it, this model is now up for auction on ebay, 100% of the proceeds will be going to the Birmingham Dogs Home Charity, who sadly need all the money they can get this time of year. The...

Truescale Kharn – Finished

It always happens that my most recent conversion is my favourite to date, and Kharn the Betrayer is no exception. I’m really pleased with the level of detail I’ve managed to get into this model, I really pushed myself to get everything as top notch as I could, and it’s nice to see a bit of improvement in my sculpting,...

Tutorial – Artscale Terminator

Ever since I made my first Artscale Terminator I’ve been asked for a tutorial on how I did it. I was very hesitant for a long time because it takes a while to put this together but also because it requires a better grasp of using Green Stuff than the Artscale Space Marine in Power Armour. However, enough people requested it, so...

Truescale Kharn – Part 1

This particular project has had an insanely long delay period, but I finally got stuck in a few weeks ago. This model is my half of a trade I agreed to with Volomir where he would paint up one of my conversions to put up charity auction in exchange for this model. At the moment this is realistically about 70% complete but the hardest...

Artscale Space Marine Combat Squad

Well it’s been far far too long since my last post. Crazy times of late have meant my priorities have had to lie elsewhere. But now I’m back on track and focused on new things… Starting with this Space Marine Combat Squad. I thought about posting an update on this squad last week but procrastinated over it and decided...

Primarchs Alpharius and Omegon

With the exception of the bases the Primarch twins Alpahrius and Omegon are now finished. This has probably been my most challenging project to date. The whole thing is about 90% self sculpted with a few bits used as armature to sculpt over. Alpharius especially is one of my favourite ever and I’m tempted to model a Space Marine...

Alpharius and Omegon – Part 3

Apologies for  the lack of posts so far this year. I had the pleasure of being hacked last week (this site and a number of others) which is one of the reasons this post is so late. Although the actual damage incurred was quite minor and cleaned up within about 3 hours I decided to tidy up and remove any other vulnerablilites....

Alpharius and Omegon – Part 2

Steady progress on Alpharius and his twin brother Omegon. The tricky thing with this conversion is to make them obvious Primarchs, but also not have them too decorative, as their own modus operandi is to make sure they and all the Legionnaires are largely indistinguishable from one another. At the end of the day I’d rather make...

Artscale Space Marine Casts

In my last post I showed my attempts at making a cast of my long time coming Primarch project. I filled the silicone rubber mold with Green Stuff and the cast I got out of that the next day was actually pretty decent considering. Perhaps because the Green Stuff wasn’t exposed to air when it was curing but the cast was a bit sticky...

Alpharius and Omegon – Part 1

This is the starting point of my first Primarch project. I’ve been putting off doing any Primarch for a long time because I want the finished model to really capture that extra special something that makes them so special. This particular project features the twin Primarchs Alpharius and Omegon. To do this I’m making a plain...

Tutorial – Artscale Space Marine

This is my guide to how I make a basic Artscale Space Marine in Mark 7 Power Armour. This guide shows my approach to the idea of scaled up Space Marines, and has been strongly influenced by many others. Since I made this original guide two years ago my techniques have changed a little. The original tutorial is presented here but where...

Artscale Mark VIII Deathwatch

This is only my second Mark VIII power armour conversion. The first work in progress pic below shows the three basic components (legs, torso and head) assembled and based to give an early impression of how the final model will look. Normally I make the legs and torso separately and assemble later but I think doing it this way is...

Artscale Grey Knight Squad

This 5 man Grey Knight squad are to based on Grey Knights immediately after the Heresy. As such they have Nemesis Force Weapons in the style of those on 1st edition Grey Knights, ie: Halberds with storm bolters built in. I opted to use the older metal Terminators as a base for the legs as I find them to be much better posed than the plastic ones which seem to me to be a bit too widely spread. Adding Green Stuff to metal is more difficult than adding to plastic, I’m not entirely certain why that is but I would advise beginners to use plastic models as a base. The Grey Knight plastic torsos are unusually deep compared to regular Space Marines so I used no spacer in between the front and back. The NFW has had its blade removed and attached...

Artscale Combat Squad

I didn’t really get around to making a “work in progress” post about this squad unfortunately the finished pics will have to suffice. Pretty standard work, all in all. With the exception of the shoulders (I made once then cast nine duplicates using Blu-Stuff) each Space Marine was built in the same way shown in...

Artscale Talos of the Night Lords

This is a an Artscale version of Talos from the Night Lords Legion based upon available artwork (mostly from book covers). From what I can tell he seems to be equipped with almost a full suit of mark V armour. Whilst I could have fashioned one of my own style Mark V helm I decided to acquire one of the relatively Forgeworld pieces as...

Artscale Grey Knight Terminator

Overall I’m very happy with how this particular model turned out and I have to say an army of these (lets face it there aren’t many models in a GK army) would look just glorious on any battlefield, especially if they are stood next to non-superhuman models. To describe the actual work done; the legs are completely scratchbuilt to...

Artscale Deathwatch Devastator

Here is a commission for a single Deathwatch Space Marine (to be used in FFG Deathwatch RPG). The brief was far more specific than I normally like (I like to be as free as possible in the creation process) but I really liked the concept. Sometimes having someone push for a really specific finish can be an advantage and I don’t...

Artscale Commander Culln (#2)

This was my second Lord Commander Culln conversion, commissioned after I made the first one. I followed the same guidelines as before only really altering the cloak. I took this cloak from a Hector Rex Forgeworld mini (with a lot of whittling of the inside to make it fit). Even though it doesn’t match the original artwork as...

Artscale Pre-Heresy Terminator

So here is a Pre-Heresy Terminator armed with Lightning Claws (of the Alpha Legion). The claws took a while to get right, my first attempt made them with the fingers too long so I removed a few joints from the lightning claws to shorten them. The rest of the model followed my standard method of construction, although I have to admit the...

Artscale Abaddon the Despoiler

Without a doubt this is one of my favourite conversions and one I’d wanted to work on for a long long time. I waited until I had a lot of experience with scaled up Space Marines before even attempting it. The first attempt on the build had the right structure (size, shape, etc) but the pose was just off. I was able to fix this...
