It’s certainly unusual for me to finish a project so quickly but the first Scout Squad is complete. All the legs were cast in greenstuff (surprisingly easier than resin). Otherwise these are pretty straightforward, I’ll show how I made the torso when I finish the Scout Biker “Lion Rider” squad, it’s simple but effective all the same. The plethora of scout accessories makes it simple to hide any gaps where the torso meets the legs, but the fit is pretty good anyway.

Click the image for a larger version in a new window.

They generally stand (34mm tall) head and shoulders above the regular metal and plastic scout models but are still shorter than the rest of my Actual Scale Space Marines (average 39mm tall).

Hi all, here I have the finished Assault Squad equipped with Mark V armour that I’ve been working on for a while. The complete rebuilding of the legs on all these conversions has really paid off and allowed for some decent jump-pack poses. Additionally the bulking up of the arms has worked out as a really nice alternative to using terminator arms and I think I’ll be using this approach again in future.

Well this one’s been waiting a while but I managed to finish my Grey Knight Chaplain tonight. Even when the model was finished I still didn’t feel I’d done justice to the image in my mind of how it should have looked. However, now that it is painted, I’ve got to say this has become one of my favourite conversions so far (of mine that is). It’s really fired me up to get a move on with the Grey Knights project… so 2 down, god knows how many to go

He could probably do with a few small touches here and there to finish the paintjob properly and he needs a coat of Dullcote to remove the glossy look he’s got going on, but I’m pretty pleased with the result.

As a bit of fluff for him I’ve given him the title of Guardian of Names. He carries and protects one of the Grey Knights sacred tomes, a book that records the name of each and every Grey Knight to have died protecting mankind. If that’s not a role for a Chaplain I don’t know what is.

On the subject of Grey Knights, there’s now some chatter on the old interweb of a new Codex and new miniatures, hopefully this year. Personally I’m hoping for a surprise August release. This does mean that I’ll probably put some conversions on hold until I can see what new models I can use for converting my own Actual Scale Grey Knights and also what is potentially in the Codex. Whilst searching for rumours about this I came across one mention of Grey Knights getting Jetbikes, and I have to say I really like this idea. I hate the notion of giving them Jump Packs, but for some reason Jet Bikes sort of seems very appropriate to me as a Fast Attack selection. I’m sure we’ll see Stormravens and I’m hoping for Storm Troopers and GK Chaplains (for obvious reasons).

Today I put the final touches to 2 more Red Scorpions Captains. Not a great deal to say regarding the paintjob, but I have to say the one on foot has really grown on me since I started painting it. I’m not a great fan of the stock (brick shaped) bikes, so this conversion is an improvement in my eyes. It’s late… and I can’t think right now of anything else I need to say about these two. I’ll edit if anything comes to mind tomorrow.

Finally managed to put some finishing touches to the Red Scorpions I’ve been painting recently. Would have had these done a week or so ago but stressful times of late (plus a new dog to look after) have made life a bit difficult. I’ll be finishing the final two Red Scorpions this week.

The above model isn’t one of mine, just one I agreed to paint. He has a magnetized backpack/jump pack and was created by this guy. The intention with the power sword was to have it look like it was fashioned from a large tyranid bone sword or claw. It looks better in the flesh, unfortunately I’m having trouble taking decent photos right now (need to sort out some lighting).

This model you’ve seen before, unfortunately he needed a slight repaint as the client wanted a black and red scheme rather than grey and red. I also defined his digital weapons a little better.

I haven’t added battle damage to the lightning claw captain because I felt that if added to the camo scheme it would look too busy. If the client wants battle damage adding to the Culln model then I’ll do just that.

I hope to start on some component casting real soon, but I have a lot on my plate right now so if you’re interested in purchasing some, please be patient. Cheers.

Here we have the second finished Captain for the Red Scorpions (three more to come). The client requested the camo scheme used during the Badab War for this mini. The red jagged design didn’t stand out too well on the grey of the regular armour colour so I added a fine white line to separate the two. It took a while to figure out the colours and their balance but the final piece is rather pleasing to the eye, if I do say so myself.

Just a small update here on my own Daemonhunter army, which is very slowly being built one figure at a time.

As I’m putting together this retinue I knew I wanted to keep them unified to some degree by their colour schemes. Most of the retinue will share the colours used by the Inquisitor himself. However, the Eldar Ranger ally I wanted to stand out amongst them as more individual. Because I’m basing all my own miniatures on simple desert themed bases, I figured that the Ranger’s camo-clothes should desert themed. I’m quite happy with the finished paintjob but I’m considering adding a bit more detail to the pattern.

Moving onto the rest of the army, I’ve started work on the Grey Knights, but I think the overall shape of the army will be Stormtrooper based with 2 or 3 Grey Knight squads backing them up. I need to figure out how to make Stormtroopers from existing components with some conversion but still make them unique to me and reflect a strong Inquisitorial character. I haven’t quite figured out how yet, but I’m guessing I’ll end up using Cadians as the base. Whilst I very much like the Death Korps of Kreig Grenadiers, they are hella expensive figures and a shame to chop up.

I may also end up using the IG codex to build this army but with maxed out DH allies, just so I can field Valkyries. Love that new FW Sky Talon model!

I forgot to take size comparison photos again, but you can kinda see how big he is just based on the fact he’s on a 40mm base. The cloak looks a lot worse than it does in the flesh. I’m fairly pleased with how the Hamadrya turned out, a little larger than I wanted but the positioning and pose are spot on how I wanted him. The plastic torso on the Hamadrya came from a Warhammer Zombie for those who are wondering.

Overall I’m most pleased with Huron’s Power Fist. I’ll definitely be attempting to better it in future, but it’s a nice start.

EDIT: Here’s the scale comparison with good old Lamenter Bob.
