Hi guys, not done much the last week due to spending a few days in London on a charitable endeavour. What I have managed is as you can see, some progress on the Blood Raven character, as well as a bit of work on a Alpha Legionaires Squad and some preliminary work on an Actual Scale Terminator (yes they’re on their way).
As this Blood Raven is based on Vulkan He’stan I converted a fist mounted weapon, but have since removed it to be done again, as I didn’t feel it was good enough. The cloak originally came from a Chaos Terminator Lord with lots of filling in to make it less raggedy. I really like the way Vulkan’s cloak drapes over his shoulders and so replicated it here. The raven is just a fantasy bit I picked up from bitzbox.co.uk on a whim a few months ago. The backpack has been converted from bits from a couple of thunder hammers.
Originally I had planned to have the entire backside of the cloak made from bird feathers, but due to the thickness of the cloak already I’m looking at an alternative way of incorporating feathers into the finished model.
Hope to have him finished tonight. Still to do, add pouches/rivets/holster/icons here and there, finish fist weapon, and add a bionic eye to the raven.
This is the beginning of a Blood Raven HQ that is meant to count as Vulkan He’stan. The brief for the project was to retain the wargear and pose of my previous Vulkan conversion (only in regular scale), and to make the details Blood Raven specific. I originally built the model with a normal Mark VIII chest, but changed it by replacing the back of the collar. The part came from the AoBR Captain, and with a bit of greenstuff fits perfectly.

Still to come, added iconography, a sweeping cloak with raven feathers, stylised weapons. Still not entirely sure how I’m going to replicate the gauntlet weapon.

So I’ve not had any updates for a little while, mostly because of the digital release of Blood Bowl (best game ever). Anyhow I made some progress on the Vulkan model. Re-based him as suggested, added shoulder pads and began work on the cloak.

I was going to sculpt the cloak with super sculpey and attach after, but my oven’s broken and won’t reach the heat necessary to treat it. Instead I’ve used greenstuff, slowly building it up. The basic shape is there now but I need to smooth out the inside and add the scales to the outside. I’ve tried to convey a sense of the wind blowing from behind him in the direction of his aim, hence the shape of the collar.
The spear still needs some work too. I’ll probably shorten it a bit and add some extra details. Also the plasticard is too thin but I don’t have any thicker stuff on hand right now. I think I’ll be be leaving off the icon on the back pack, as it’s one of the elements of the official model I dislike.

Here’s my first post covering a Vulkan He’stan conversion I started ages ago but haven’t had a chance to finish.
I’ve used the new miniature due for release soon and the artwork in the book as a basis. Originally was going to use a Nemesis Force Weapon as the spear but it just looked like I couldn’t be bothered to do it right and had used the simplest option. We can’t be having any of that!
The spear tip came from the Black Reach Captain model (bought one specially). It’s a slightly different sword design that works brilliantly as a spear.
The guantlet is from a veteran powerfist, that’s small enough to look the part without looking like a powerfist.
I’m trying to leave the cloak till last, and is really the element of the model I most look forward to as I’ve not done one before.
I’m still not 100% certain about the pose and may switch to something similar to the Grey Knight I’ve been working on.
