Mark V Assault Squad Complete

Hi all, here I have the finished Assault Squad equipped with Mark V armour that I’ve been working on for a while. The complete rebuilding of the legs on all these conversions has really paid off and allowed for some decent jump-pack poses. Additionally the bulking up of the arms has worked out as a really nice alternative to using terminator arms and I think I’ll be using this approach again in future.

Mark V Assault Squad

Been on these guys for a while now, I didn’t want to just make a rush job on the poses and just make do, so they’ve almost all been repositioned and resculpted.

Rather than convert all the arms from terminator arms it seemed far more logical to convert and scale up the existing power armour arms. Because most of these arms come bent at 90degree angles they are always quite difficult to fit on scaled up Marines, especially with the bigger shoulder pads. Most of the arms were cut in half at the elbow and straightened, and in some cases plasticard spacers were used to lengthen the arm too. I then bulked up the forearm and added new elbow pads that cover the cuts and spacers I had made.

Sorry for the poor photo quality, the final models will have individual close ups.

This squad is to go with other Mark V squads that I’ve been working on for far too long to make a complete Mark V Actual Scale army. After this squad will be a devastator squad, some characters and some scouts.

Red Scorpion Captain

Here we have the second finished Captain for the Red Scorpions (three more to come). The client requested the camo scheme used during the Badab War for this mini. The red jagged design didn’t stand out too well on the grey of the regular armour colour so I added a fine white line to separate the two. It took a while to figure out the colours and their balance but the final piece is rather pleasing to the eye, if I do say so myself.

Tweaked!

Errant Armour Finished

Though there’s a little cleaning up to do (when the greenstuff has dried) and perhaps a few accessories to add (an eagle or skull). I’ll get some better photos tomorrow.

I decided to resculpt both hands so they’d look similar and because the standard right hand did look bizarrely small. I think it’ll be a common thing to be sculpting hands.

Errant Armour

This mini is being made as the prize for the winner of my “name the website” competition.

He requested a marine in Mk 8 armour carrying a thunder hammer. Originally I was going to make a flying through the air pose with his thunder hammer held two-handed ready to strike, but after putting together theĀ  initial pieces the model looked too OTT.

I’m trying to pose the arms like the 2008 Games Day Space Marine with thunder hammer. It’s a little fiddly getting the arms to fit and I’ll have to sculpt the one hand but it should be fine.

I’m using this as the guide for how the finished armour should look.

I normally attach a model’s head last as I always feel the direction it’s looking has the most overall effect on its pose. In this case the helmet would not sit comfortably in any other position without looking odd. I also had to trim down the helm to make it fit. The greenstuff on the helm is to try and represent the “sharper” look of the helm in the illustration, and deviate slightly from the mark 7 design.

Things left to do; the trim on the pads needs to be made thinner, the greaves need bulking slightly at the bottom and the boots need a little work. The knee pads need a slight point added to them and the belt buckle need adding. After that it’s just the arms to sort out. I’ve done the Thunder Hammer already by modifying the plastic one to look more like the GD Space Marine version.

Also finished the legs and torsos for the second Mk V tac squad. Pictures due soon.
