More of the Terminators…

November 3rd, 2009

I haven’t devoted much time to these, but I’m giving myself 2 more days to finish this squad. Here’s the progress so far, pictured with my own unfinished Bane-Raider. I think they look pretty cool. The sergeant carries a power maul (I ran out of sergeant power sword arms), though I may swap it out depending on the client’s wishes.

I’ve been putting some time into the long awaited tutorial, which will be finished soon. A little later I’ll also be putting together a tutorial for these Terminators.

Alpha Legionnaries

August 16th, 2009

I finally got some work done on the squad of Alpha Legionnaires I had promised I would do weeks ago. This is the second time I have started this squad (part of the reason for the wait). I had tried to pose some of the squad in a striding pose, but many of the legs just ended up looking like they belonged to ballerinas, skipping… you get the idea. I ended up swapping most of them out for a more standard marine pose, with some minor adjustments. Striding/running poses are very difficult to do without them looking weird, and with a variety of only 5 pairs of Terminator legs to use, it only makes thing tougher.

In the near future I will start removing the thighs completely and sculpting them from scratch.

The squad here will consist of 3 x Mk4, and 5 x Mk3. I’ve begun sculpting the Mk3 helmets to match the helm used by the Space Marine Master with helm in hand. I think I may try an alternative style based on some of the earlier models/drawings of Mk3 armour, just to see how they look.

The Mk4 bits are from forgeworld, and I think they are brilliant, my favourite style of power armour by far. Still a long way to go with this squad, I’ve already begun working of their weapons, a collection of power weapons and combi-bolters (client will use these as GK Terminators). I’m going away for a few days but when I get back I’ll be giving these my full attention, so hopefully most of the work will be done by this time next week.

Mark V Tactical Squad number 2

July 31st, 2009

Well I finally managed to finish this squad. The arms on this squad are from the terminator models as apposed to the power armour arms used on the previous squad. It’s a lot more work but ultimately a much better finish. The brief for this squad was for mostly charging poses. I didn’t manage to achieve the standard charging pose of GWs Space Marines, but for the most part have created a sort of striding pose, which I’m rather pleased with. I think the running pose can take away from the sense of weight that I try to instill into these conversions, and are best left for Assault Squads with jump packs. All models are WYSIWYG with the exception of two carrying combat blades instead of bolt pistols. The arms on the sergeant are magnetized as I’ve already pointed out before. I got the chance to experiment a little with “brownstuff”. At the moment I’m just trying to get a feel for it. Despite many people preferring it to greenstuff, at the moment I’m more comfortable with the good old green-chewing -gum.

Starting with the original conversions

June 16th, 2009

I thought I’d begin by posting images of the first actual scale conversions I did. If you’ve seen these before them before just skip to the next post :-)

Sorry no “work in progress” shots of these. Also whenever the Lamenter Space Marine (with the plasma gun) shows up repeatedly in any shot he’s there for size comparison purposes. Expect to see him on a regular basis.

These were my first actual scale conversions. I used the trimmed down terminator arms on these models. The trims on the pads were done with plasticard. Overall I was thrilled they turned out so well.
